Description
I drove to Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Rome, GA today. This cemetery is the second oldest cemetery in Rome, and is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. While driving through, I came across this sign and wondered who she was. It turns out Ellen Axson Wilson (May 15, 1860 – August 6, 1914),[1] was the first wife of Woodrow Wilson and the mother of his three daughters. Like her husband, she was a Southerner from a slave-owning family, as well as the daughter of a clergyman. She was born in Savannah, Georgia, but raised in Rome, Georgia. This photo was taken November 4, 2017, Rome, GA (USA).
